There are some places that instantly feel like the Pacific Northwest — and Cannon Beach is one of them.

Rising dramatically from the shoreline along the Oregon Coast, Haystack Rock has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Pacific Northwest. For this artwork, I wanted to capture that unmistakable feeling of standing on Cannon Beach with the enormous sea stack ahead, the ocean stretching into the distance, and the rugged beauty of the Oregon coastline surrounding you.

Like the places throughout my collection, Cannon Beach is somewhere I’ve experienced for myself before bringing it home to draw. Visiting a place in person allows me to notice the little details, colors, atmosphere, and sense of scale that help turn a drawing into something that feels connected to the real experience of being there.

Each piece is drawn by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with dozens of hours spent carefully building the textures of Haystack Rock, the movement of the Pacific Ocean, the reflections along the beach, and all the small details that give this Oregon Coast artwork its sense of place.
